Whale sharks at Kaiyukan Aquarium? 2014/8/23 20:44
I plan to visit Osaka's Kaiyukan Aquarium in early october. On their website I noticed that the whale sharks are currently not on display. Does anyone know if I will be able to see them in october?
Thanks!

The whale shark seems to have health issues, so has been transferred to a research center to be monitored (since May 20), but then unfortunately she died in mid-July...

The aquarium's notice (in Japanese):

I was at this place in May and it seemed to me that the whale shark wasn't in a good physical condition (open wounds / abrasions on his fins) and the fish tank was too small for his size, at leat it's my personal view.

If you are keen on aquariums, you should go to Toba. It's much bigger than Osaka and, in my opinion, much better. The Kintetsu has a rail pass for tourists that saves a lot of money.
Here's my Toba gallery.
