Travel Narita-Haneda-Narita cheaply 2014/8/29 20:33
In November I am chaperoning 10 teenagers into Narita airport and on the train to Haneda. Tickets are bought on the ground floor at Narita. Questions: (1) does each teenager have to produce a passport to buy one ticket or (2) can I buy 11 tickets at one time? (3) where does one buy Haneda-Narita train tickets at Haneda airport on the return journey?

The teenagers will not have a chaperone on the return journey. Is Haneda airport well signposted in English so they can find the transit train to Narita?

Which dates,times(all flight dep/arr)?
Which terminal to/from HND domestic or international?
And how old teen members all same or over 12yd(as adult fare) all?

If so (all adult fare)
[Keisei]
no group discount ticket under 15 passengers as foregin visitor travelers

[JR]
over 8 passengers group discount ticket[ʒc̊/futsuu-dantai-waribiki]
15% off in Nov all days not need booking just buy at JR ticket counter at NRT.
but no direct train for HND until JR Shinagawa stations only.
NRT to JR Shinagawa(11p) + JR Shinagawa to NRT(10p) round tickets at NRT possible.

[Keilyu] KeikyuShinagawa - HND
over 8 passengers group discount ticket 30% off all month/days.
but need booking 5 days before at Keikyu station ticket counter(no online form/call).
No ticket counter in NRT.

Anyway, ask at NRT travel infomation counter[TIC] better.
Maybe easiest way is by direct bus(need boking) but not cheaper than train.

HND(both terminals) with english doirectins a lot no problem.
Watch official airport web and YouTube travelers uploaded videos.

When in the days will they travel between NRT and HND?
Trains to connect the two airports are not in 24-hour operation.

The group discount by JR, which requires application in advance, is given concerning basic fares only, not also concerning additional charges on specific services such as Limited Express.

When a foreign visitor uses JR-East Limited Express service "Narita Express" from NRT to Tokyo Metropolis, a NfEX Tokyo Direct Ticket is cost-saving.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/nex_oneway.html
(No such JR discount ticket is now available regarding a way to NRT.)
Seats of "Narita Express" trains require reservation.
If they use JR lines first, they can easily change JR lines in Tokyo and Shimbashi Stations and then use Tokyo Monorail to the station in their HND terminal.
Tokyo Monorail has one station in each HND terminal:

Some non-JR trains are directly connecting NRT and HND, running on Keisei lines + Toei subway Asakusa Line + Keikyu lines. (These trains may be crowded depending on days, time zones and railroad sections.)
Seats of these NRT - HND direct trains are not to be reserved.
Keikyu has one station in HND International Terminal and one station for HND Domestic Terminals 1 and 2.

In November I am chaperoning 10 teenagers into Narita airport and on the train to Haneda.
The teenagers will not have a chaperone on the return journey.

How will the situation be?
You and they will take an international flight to NRT, you will accompany them until HND, they will take domestic flights from HND and back to HND and they will fly out from NRT; is that all right?
Have you confirmed that they cannot choose an international flight to HND or a domestic flight from NRT?

does each teenager have to produce a passport to buy one ticket

On purchasing a regular railroad ticket, he/she does not have to produce his/her passport.

The above-mentioned NfEX Tokyo Direct Ticket is offered to a non-Japanese passport holder only, so when he/she purchases one, his/her passport should be confirmed.

Is Haneda airport well signposted in English so they can find the transit train to Narita?

HND is serving international flights; signs in English language are found here and there in its two domestic and one international terminals.

Please note that Narita Station / Keisei Narita Station is not the station for them to disembark at; these two stations are located outside NRT.
NRT has two terminals. JR-East / Keisei has one station in each NRT terminal. Trains bound for NRT make stops at Airport Terminal 2 Station then at Narita Airport Station (in NRT Terminal 1).
If the teenagers take different flights from NRT, their stations and terminals may be either different or the same.

When a foreign visitor uses JR-East Limited Express service "Narita Express" from NRT to Tokyo Metropolis, a NfEX Tokyo Direct Ticket is cost-saving.

Only when you compare it to a regular N'EX ticket, which is not always useful. In this case, the trip between Haneda and Narita using Keisei/Toei/Keikyu costs 1760 yen. Because the N'EX Tokyo Direct Ticket does not include the Tokyo Monorail, you have 410 yen to pay on top of the 1500 to reach Haneda.

For the return journey HND to NRT, I would check costs on Limousine Bus (as Hosis mentions) as this goes directly from Haneda Airport to Narita Airport and if your teens are not comfortable travelling on various trains, this is a safe and comfortable trip, as well as help loading and unloading luggage. However you must allow extra time for a bus journey as the traffic on the freeway could be congested.

Hi again.
Thank you for your advice on the train service. I really appreciate the details given. I can see problems for young adults using the train. Would anyone recommend the Welcome to Tokyo Limousine Bus to travel (1) Narita to Haneda and (2) Haneda to Narita? The bus appears to travel a direct route between the two airports. No need for passengers to get off. Tickets can be bought at both airports. Cost is OK.
