Shugakuin to Enryakuji 2014/8/30 17:32
I'm going to be in Kyoto this October with my two sisters, visiting from America. We're reserved at Shugakuin Imperial Villa on the morning of the 3rd - am I right in thinking it would be relatively convenient to combine a visit to Hieizan? I know it's physically relatively close as the crow flies.

I've always planned to go there and somehow never managed it, and the transportation options for Hieizan have always seemed a bit bewildering to me (I'm bad that way). What would be the optimum route starting from Shugakuin Station - the Eizan Line to the ropeway?

Thanks!

Kyoto Bus number 17 connects directly between the Shugakuin area and the Yase-Hieizanguchi from where the cablecar and ropeway ascend to Enryakuji from the west. From the top of the ropeway it is still quite a walk or a bus ride to the temple area:

Thanks, Uji. What about this Keihan "Hiezan 1Day ticket" option? I can't find an English site:

It looks to me as if it would cover the train from Shugakuin to Yase-Hiezanguchi, plus the cable car/ropeway and shuttle bus for \2000 for the day. Am I reading that correctly? Would it still be better to take the bus?

I forgot that the train, too, connects Shugakuin directly with Yase-Hiezanguchi. It is probably easier to use. The ticket sounds like a good and convenient deal.
