Sake Breweries at Kobe 2014/9/9 21:03
Hello
Anybody been to Kobe to visit the Sake Breweries?
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3556.html
I was reading the above link but could not locate the mentioned JR Sumiyoshi station which is the nearest JR station to Hakutsuru where the Breweries are located.
Appreciate some advice, please.
Thank you.

I've been to six or seven, and I'd especially recommend the Hakutsuru museum. Here's a link: http://www.bento.com/phgal-sake1.html
and there's a map link at the bottom that shows the nearest stations.

Note that Hakutsuru is the brand name of a sake, not a neighborhood. The nearest station to the Hakutsuru brewery is Hanshin Sumiyoshi station (5 minutes), while JR Sumiyoshi station is 15 minutes away. Both are shown clearly on the map (http://www.bento.com/kansai/gmaps/9093.html )

By the way, the other breweries I visited (other than Hakutsuru) were rather hit or miss in terms of interest level, and I think most of them had no English-language support. Some were simply closed because it was off season.

Thank you for your reply.
I will walk to Hakutsuru Sake Brewery from JR Sumiyoshi station.
I intend to spend a couple of hours at Nada Sake District, mainly to free taste some sake which I have not tried before.
Do I need to inform Hakutsuru about my visit? Can I simply walk in?
Thank you.

You can just show up at the sake museum, (although if you show up even a minute after 4pm they won't let you in).

I should mention thought that while Hakutsuru had the best museum on my tour, they also had the worst sake. It would be a shame if that was your first and last taste of sake.

Hi Umami Dearest
As I have not taste sake before, I will not be able to tell the difference between the best and the worst.
Thanks for your reply and this museum is "logged" on my itinerary.
Thanks.
