Itinerary suggestions Tokyo-Kyoto

Hello,

I will be traveling in Japan from November 21st, leaving December 6th.
I will be flying in and out from Tokyo Narita.

I am planning to buy a 7-day JR Pass to get from Tokyo to Kyoto and do some side trips.

Currently my itinerary looks as following:
Day 1 (Fri 21/11): Arrival in Tokyo (morning)
Day 2 (Sat 22/11): Tokyo
Day 3 (Sun 23/11): Tokyo
Day 4 (Mon 24/11): Tokyo
Day 5 (Tue 25/11): Tokyo
Day 6 (Wed 26/11): ---thinking of traveling to Osaka & visit--- (1st day of JR Pass)
Day 7 (Thu 27/11): Kyoto
Day 8 (Fri 28/11): Kyoto
Day 9 (Sat 29/11): ---side trip from Kyoto.. not sure yet where---
Day 10 (Sun 30/11): Kyoto (daytrip to Nara?)
Day 11 (Mon 1/12): Kyoto
Day 12 (Tue 2/12): Travel to Tokyo (last day of JR Pass)
Day 13 (Wed 3/12): Tokyo
Day 14 (Thu 4/12): Tokyo
Day 15 (Fri 5/12): Tokyo
Day 16 (Sat 6/12): Fly out back home

Due to accommodation arrangements I have no fixed plans for day 6 and 9 yet. I have to check out of the hotel on day 9, and can only return to the same hotel a day later.
I was thinking of taking the opportunity to visit another city that day, since I need to move places anyway. What would you recommend?

Also on the last 3 days in Tokyo I might need to plan some daytrips from Tokyo, as I'll have already quite some days in Tokyo upon arrival. Any suggestions for this?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Day 3 : Kyoto to Nara/osaka
Day 4 : Osaka to Tokyo
Day 5/6 : Tokyo to Gunma
Day 7: Gunma to Tokyo
Day 8,9: Tokyo city
Day 10: Tokyo to Big Buddha/Yokohama back to Tokyo
Please advise isn't advisable to buy Kansai or JR pass?

Bart, for your Day 9 Hiroshima might be a suggestion. I'm guessing maybe you couldn't find a room in Kyoto on Saturday during the peak color season, or were simply priced out. But probably no great loss--Kyoto will likely be a complete mob scene that weekend and it's better to get out. You might have an easier time in Hiroshima. Other possibilities would include Okayama and Himeji. None of these cities in themselves have too long a list of tourist attractions (I guess Hiroshima has the most, but expect Miyajima to be extremely crowded that weekend), but you don't need all that many things to do just for a one-night stay, and having the rail pass puts a large number of tourist venues within range of your hotel room if you stay in any of these cities.

If it were me, I would maybe stay in Osaka on Day 6 and get a hotel in Umeda or Shinsaibashi and enjoy the shopping and nightlife.
