Hokkaido which place should I go first? 2014/9/21 13:25
Hi,

I am planning for a 13 days free and easy trip to Hokkaido and Tokyo. I intend to stay in Hokkaido for 6 nights before travelling to Tokyo/Osaka.

I would fly into New Chitose airport and leave from Hakodate by night train to Tokyo/Osaka.

As a first time traveller to Japan, I will workout the Hokkaido route first before plan for Tokyo/Osaka. My interest places as below:

Day 1 : Arrive 11:35 - Chitose - Sapporo (Shiroi Koibito Park, Beer Museum, Clock Tower)

Day 2 : Sapporo - Otaru (Canal area, Nikka Whisky Distillery) - Sapporo

Day 3 : Head to Furano - Asahikawa Zoo - Daisetsuzan park if possible and back to Furano

Day 4 : Furano (Biei, Cheese factory, Blue Pond)

Day 5 : Head to Noboritbetsu (Lake Toya)

Day 6 : Head to Hakodate (Mount Hakodate)

Day 7 : Hakodate night train to Tokyo

I should get 7 days or 14 days JR pass?

Please advise and thank you in advance.

Hi,

I change my plan by taking night train from Sapporo to Tokyo as below:

Day 1 : Arrive in Narita airport 0855am and take budget air to New Chitose - straight to Noboribetsu and spend a night here.

Day 2 : Head to Hakodate (Mount Hakodate). If possible will visit Lake Toya

Day 3 : Take train to Sapporo (Shiroi Koibito Park, Beer Museum, Clock Tower)

Day 4 : Sapporo - Otaru (Canal Area, Nikka Whisky Distillery) spend 2 nights in Sapporo

Day 5 : Head to Furano - Asahiyama Zoo - Furano

Day 6 : Furano (Cheese factory) - Biei or Tomamu, Spend 2 nights in Furano

Day 7 : Head to Sapporo, night train to Tokyo

Which plan is better? Anyone can give me advise. Thank you

Why not skip the overnight train and just fly? It would save quite a bit of lost time, unless riding a train all night was something you were looking forward to.
