Using blenders in Japan? Wattage? 2014/10/2 19:55
I'm thinking of purchasing an Optimum 9400 blender that uses 2,238 Watts and using it for when I live in Japan.

Does anybody know if it will be safe to use?

Will I need a transformer or converter of some kind or will an ordinary power adaptor do?

It's not the wattage as much as it is about the voltage. If it's 100-120V, then you can use it. If it's 220-240V, it'll only operate at very low speed and won't function properly.

in general, you can use an electric product which consumes 1500 W at max.in Japan.

Of course, the thickness, or gauge, of the wire has much to do with how much amperage can go through, as wattage=voltage x amperage. If the wires are thin, then less watts.

My food processor is 2500W @230V. I've had no problems with it in Japan.

Mr Shippy,
Just out of curiousity, are you using a step down transformer 220-240v to 100v-110v?

I think I might just wait until I get to Japan and buy a blender there. I'm not sure if it's a popular appliance there however.

Does anybody know any good retail outlet to buy kitchen appliances?

Perhaps even an online store?

Yes. I have a step up transformer 100v-230v. But it also works ok in a 200v domestic socket, but probably not recommended.
