Kyoto to Nara and then Osaka 2014/10/13 11:41
I have a JR. pass and want to visit Nara in the early afternoon to see Todaiji and then leave for Osaka Kansai to catch a 11:30PM flight.
Can I use the pass to travel to Todaiji and by which train/how long will it take? Also what train/timing do I then take to go Osaka Kansai from Nara? I have a suitcase I want to leave at Nara station for a few hours so how do I do that at Nara?
Thanks,

12.13 JR Yamatoji Rapid Service from Osaka Station to Nara Station. [You will arrive in Nara for 13.03.

17.18 JR Yamatoji Line Regional Rapid Service from Nara Station to Osaka Station [You will arrive back in Osaka for 18.18]

Make a note though that I have put in dates for 14th October. Even though the times might be slightly different its still worth checking Hyperdia for the date you have planned. http://www.hyperdia.com/en/
But the above times are what I'd recommend you follow so that you have a enjoyable afternoon in Nara while also getting back with enough time to check in at the airport.
I also used Osaka Station, Not Shin-Osaka Station.

There are coin lockers at Nara Station though I'm unsure of how big they actually are. You might be better off using Osaka Station to store your luggage.
I'll provide some links and you can decide which is best for you.

He (she?) said KYOTO to Nara to Osaka.
Here's the correct info.

You can do what you are suggesting, but I would advise you to check out of your hotel in Kyoto and go to Tennoji Station in Osaka. I would then leave my luggage in a locker there.

I would then visit Nara and return to Tannoji Station, pick up my luggage, and go to the airport.

I would take the Haruka Limited Express from Kyoto to Tennoji Station. This limited express train is a direct train to the Airport, and has extra area set aside for luggage. The trip from Kyoto to the Airport is about 75 minutes, and it goes through Osaka. It will be easier for you to get on and store your luggage on this train.

Once I have loaded my luggage into a locker at Tennoji Station, I would then go to Nara and return. I would then catch the next Haruka Limited Express to Kansai Airport.

Kyoto Station to Tennoji Station: 46 minutes.
Tennoji Station to Nara Station: 35 minutes.
Tennoji Station to Kansai Airport: 32 minutes.

In all, you are talking about 2 hours of commute time on a train.

I hope this helps.

Oops... Sorry about the Typo. It's Tennoji Station, and not Tannoji.

I am confirming what Kari Haruka had said, go to Osaka and drop off your luggage.

The reason I used Tennoji Station instead of Osaka Station is becasue it is closer to Nara.
