Seems about 2000-2500km(1240-1550mi) drive not so difficult. Use Google MAP(.com) "transit[get directions]" by car. CW,CCW or "S($)" letter(zig zag) route plans all possible. Also National roads/express way drive recorders videos a lot on YouTube. This is R4(National road) long straight drive video from mid Tokyo to Aomori city over 740km[469mi] (x8 speed and cutted some breaks) http://youtu.be/RIKxLOgzhekNatinal roads are all free not Express-way[toll road](Japanese calling "high-way"). Read this guide[PDF] very important info a lot. http://www.hkd.mlit.go.jp/topics/toukei/chousa/h20keikaku/e/e_all.pdfFirst timer for OUT Tokyo driving as 1st travel day plans are from Tokyo to Mt.Fuji(5th station P no snows but still cold) and more far or round Mt.Fuji area(five lakes) then stay Hakone onsen a lot. Japan land mark and fun experience is Fuji-san(snow hat) and onsen most famous.
