Hi, I am just returning from a trip to Japan that i really enjoyed. I tried to visit Mt Aso. But because of the fumes i could not go all the way to the crater. Too bad. To my surprise i noticed that you could horseback ride nearby. However the horses did not look to lively. Maybe this was caused by the fact that the horses did not have any protection against the sun and were harassed by flies. So the question that I have is there an Animal Protection Institute or so in Japan?

Do you mean horses should be protected from sunshine and flies should be killed not to harass horses ?

Thanks all for the reactions. When i think of sun protection i was thinking of a roof (protect them also against the rain). What to do on the flies i don't know but i am sure there is a way to deminish this problem.

I'm quite sure horses have survived for centuries without shelter or protection from insects...

Oh, understood. Aso horses not "pure" wild life but very close wild life so no their house at that wide grass feild "Kusa-senri" as pastureland. In the morning they coming feeding spot foods in large backets. After morning some horses wearing work tools for travelers ride tour some horses back to grass feild whole day. Before evening working over ride tour tools off they back to glass field again. So they sleep at grass field mainly whole year. But all horses and cows are managed and regular medical checkup cleared. Horse/cow houses just not close and blind lower ground located a lot. Horses are very tough exactly. This is "Kandachime"living Shimokita in Aomri northern Japan snow country. http://wadaphoto.jp/japan/aomori02.htmhttp://assign.way-nifty.com/blog/2013/01/1231-12-1351.htmlAso is no snow no strong winds usual seems pretty "heaven" for them :)
