Hi, Thank you for taking the time to read and help me out.
Myself and 5 friends are traveling to Japan, we have 4 nights and 3 full days in Tokyo.(all first timers in Japan) We will get the train from airport to Tokyo and use it to get around next 3 days. We also want to go to the Jigokudani Monkey Park on one of the days. We are staying in Shinjuku. Can someone please explain the best way for us to purchase travel. Should we by a pass that covers everything? is there one? or just pay before each train? or are the line ups too long? we will want to get around to the normal touristy sites. feel free to make suggestions on do's and don'ts for that too please :) thank you again

There is no pass that will pay off for such a short stay. Be aware that the monkey park is about a 1.5 hour trip from Toyko, so visiting it will take most of a day out of your already short trip. There is a ticket from Narita airport into Tokyo that provides good savings. I suggest for inner-Tokyo travel you get a Suica card - this is a prepaid travel card than can be used for inner-city travel only, and will save you having to line up to buy tickets all the time. It can't be used to get you to the monkey park though, because you have to travel from Tokyo to Nagano first and a Suica does not cover inter-city travel.
