Nikko in Culture day 3/11/14 2014/10/25 22:05
Hi,
we are planning to visit Nikko on Monday 3/11/14.
Do you think it will be too crowded ?
We will be in Tokyo 30.10.14-4.11.14. Should I change the date to visit Nikko ?
Thank you in advance,
Gal.

Yes, especially if the weather is good.

Do you want to see the autumn colors or just the shrines and temples down in the town? If you want to see the colors, I recommend to go as early as possible, i.e. on the 30th or 31st because the season is starting to near its end around Lake Chuzenjiko. It will also be less crowded on regular weekdays (although there is still likely to be traffic congestion along the Irohazaka road).

But if your purpose is just to see the shrines and temple, I don't think it matters so much. It will be more crowded on the long weekend, but as long as you do not visit the Lake Chuzenjiko area, at least you won't get stuck in traffic jams.

I personally would decide based on weather and aim for a weekday.
