Shosenkyo gorge or others for autumn scenery

I'm interested in seeing some good autumn leaves, and was recommended to go to shosenkyo gorge.
Is it really worth a 2 hour trip from Tokyo, or are there other locations with similar scenery?
For example, in tokyo there is the hamarikyu and other parks.
