How long does it take to climb on Mount Hiei from the foot to the top and what physical condition is needed?

From what locals tell me, it takes about 2 hours. I made the sad mistake of overstaying my visit and had to hike up and down the road to get to the next available public transport. Getting insults, glares, and honks from passing cars.
The roads and stuff are pretty easy to navigate
