Ferry Wakkanai-Rishiri-Wakkanai in April 2015

My husband and I would like to go out to Rishiri for the day. I have found the timetable (in English) however I cannot see any further information. My questions are
1. would I have to book in advance for the return fare and if so how to do so in English
2. if I cannot book in advance, how busy is it likely to be! I have absolutely no idea how many may take this ferry.
As usual, always grateful for assistance from this wonderful site.

In April, ferries to Rishiri and Rebun are likely to not busy, at all. It is out-of-season. You should have no problems just buying the tickets at the ferry terminal in Wakkanai before departure.

Why APR? Still Winter cold winds a lot not comfortable.
So few traveler no worry about ferry booking.
If will be end of APR in "golden week"
Sakura front still around Hirosaki(Aomori) or Hakodate area.
"Spring" stucked far south.
Hokkaido best season starts from June.
