Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/6 01:26
Hi,

I plan to do a daytrip to Gujo Hachiman from Nagoya. I have several queries
1. I need to put my 2 large luggages in Nagoya. I know there're coin lockers but I read elsewhere that they're likely full. I arrive quite early around 8.30am. Is it a reasonable time for the lockers to be empty still? Is there any manned counters for luggage in Nagoya Stat? Perhaps the last resort, is there any large luggages lockers in Gujo Hachiman Station?

2. Buses in Gujo
2.1. I need the bus stop location and routes
2.2 Is it only Gifu bus operate locally in this area?

3. I got this link but it's in kanjis
http://www.gifubus.co.jp/highway/express/gifu_hati.html
Basically my route is simple. I just need bus direction from Sample Iwasaki Village -- Hachiman Castle -- Dowtown area (Sagisui Source; Igawa & Yanaka Lane) -- back to Gujo Hachiman Stat

I opt for bus ride and not walk due to limited time schedule

TIA

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/6 23:19
There are the local buses called 'Mame Buses'

Heres the pdf file of the sightseeing map of Gujo :

http://www.gujokankou.com/en/image/sightseeing/pdf_sightseeingmap.pdf

Its 100 yen one way regardless the distance, but the unlimited day pass is only 200 yen.

Here s the timetable for weekdays and Saturdays (also for Sundays too)

Lastly, some useful write up on Gujo:

Hope this helps.

Cheers :)

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/7 01:51
Hi Gujo Fan
You made my dayyy :D

Thank You

I still need some info, hope you could assist me with it
1. Based on this Gifu Bus link http://www.gifubus.co.jp/highway/express/gifu_hati.html
if I want to take Gifu Bus to Gujo Hachiman Jokomachi Plaza then I board from JR Gifu #14 Stand ‚i‚qŠò•Œ@14‚Ì‚è‚Î (the earliest at 7.40am) arrive at Jokomachi Plaza ŒS㔪”¦é‰º’¬ƒvƒ‰ƒU at 8.50am if taking the earliest bus?

2. Any sample shops aside Kobo (http://www.samplekobo.com/) that allows visitors to visit their workshop without participating? Unfortunately, Kobo happens to close on Thursday, my visiting day.

3. Is it worth it to visit Hachiman Castle on 27th of November for autumn spot? I know it's peak at the moment and so beautiful but I don't think it'd last until my visiting day. Would I rather spend more time in sample workshop?

4. I just want to confirm , Mame Buses only operates 3 times a day on weekdays which is on 8am; 12pm & 17pm? Also the schedule says it's for daytime light savings from Apr to Sept? Is it still the same schedule for Nov then?

5. Lastly, I want to verify some major stations Kanji
JR Gujo Bus stand# 14 ‚i‚qŠò•Œ@14‚Ì‚è‚Î
Gujo Hachiman Station ŒS㔪”¦”Ž——ŠÙ‘O or ŒS㔪”¦‰w
Jokomachi Plaza ŒS㔪”¦é‰º’¬ƒvƒ‰ƒU

TIA

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/7 08:44
1. Yes, I think so

2. Yup, one of them is Asahi Sample Kobo

Heres some info :
http://www.gujohachiman.com/kanko/old_site/shopping_e.htm

3. Currently the weather forecast for this month is favorable for long autumn viewing period. Nevertheless the night illumination of the castle is only till the 16th of Nov. I would suggest you go to the castle first, since its amazing even without the autumn leaves :)

4 Em, sorry, here's the link for the the time you want : http://www.city.gujo.gifu.jp/life/detail/post-67.html

It actually operates hourly, ie from 8 am to 4 pm (loop style, with 2 buses going the opposite direction). So 9 times a day I guest for November for each direction

5. Looks ok :)

Enjoy :)

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/7 19:11
Hi Gujo Fan,

Many thanks for the detailed explanation. I really appreciate it. Just one more thing if I want to use the Gifu Bus instead of Nagarawa Railway to Gujo Hachiman.
1. Is it a mandatory reservation bus?
2. Where could I buy the ticket , I mean could I buy it just before boarding the bus?

at the end, I have to settle w/ Iwasaki sample village as it's closer to the railway station and I could start the route walking all the way to downtown via the concrete riverbank walkway from Nagawa River to Yoshida River. I could imagine how beautiful it is already :D Hopefully we'd be rewarded w/ great weather and the autumn still lingers * fingercross

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/7 21:26
I dont think you need to reserve the seats

I guess it depends on demand and supply.

Maybe you can consider the other buses (i.e. Nohi Bus, Meitetsu and JR Tokai) as per the japan-guide.com info as a backup plan (if the Gifu Bus is full). All of them need reservation. Here's the link

http://www.nouhibus.co.jp/english/nagoya.html

(ps: you can try and call them to reserve your seat)

Hope this helps

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/8 02:40
Hi Gujo Fan,

hmm now i'm thinking of another option which is the direct Gifu Bus from Meitetsu Bus Centre just next of JR Nagoya. Also it stops right in the downtown Jokomachi Terminal

This is according to Japan Guide:
Gifu Bus operates one round trip bus per day between Meitetsu Bus Center (next to JR Nagoya Station) and Shirakawago that stops at the Jokamachi Plaza bus stop in central Gujo along the way. The one way trip between Nagoya and Gujo takes 80 minutes and costs 2060 yen

Bad thing is it only operates on a single round trip per day and I try to look for the schedule but couldn't find

Nohi, Meitetsu & JR Tokai buses stop at Gujo Hachiman Interchange bus stop. it's really far and need to take taxi to downtown (even 10mnts by taxi) so they're pretty inconvenient.

Do you have any info on the Gifu Bus that operates from Meitetsu Bus Centre in Nagoya?

TIA

I stayed two nights in Gujo Hachiman a couple of years ago - I didn't do the replicas but I used the above linked guide to do a walking tour. If you have the time, maybe you can check it out.....

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/9 16:07
Hi All,

just got a reply from Nagoya International Centre Information Services Division (NIC) that the direct Gifu bus from Nagoya to Gujo Hachiman is no longer in operation. It's only Nohi Bus now that operates from Meitetsu Nagoya bus centre but they stop in Guji Inter which is very far even from the train station and less convenient

So if the option is by bus then the Gifu bus that runs from JR Gifu or Meitetsu Gifu is better option than Nohi bus.

Hopefully the information in Japan Guide about the Gifu Bus from Meitetsu Nagoya bus centre is going to be updated soon too

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/10 02:01
I took the bus from the Gujo Interchange when I went to Takayama. It is really in the middle of nowhere - I took a taxi. I wonder if taxis might go there to pick up passengers when a bus is due in?

Re: Gujo Bus Stop location & timetable 2014/11/10 15:44
Hi Maranyc
i don't think the taxi would wait there but based on the blogs I read, it's pretty easy to find taxi nearby but just don't try to walk on your own to Gujo's city centre :D

btw, the info in regards to the Gifu Bus from Nagoya to Shirakawa go (transit in Gujo Jokomachi Plaza) is incorrect. so they do still operate until now.

cheers
