Travel in Towada area 2014/11/9 01:57
I am going to Aomori in early December and was thinking of detouring to Lake Towada on the way back to Tokyo.

I would really like to go to the Towada Arts Centre as well as have a look around the area but I can't much information. The Arts Centre web site says you can either access via:

From Hachinohe station to Towada Art Center
-40 minutes / by JR bus

From Shichinohe Towada station to Towada Art Center
-40 minutes / by Towada Kanko bus

But I can't find any information online about bus timetables and don't want to get stuck somewhere without transport!

I'd appreciate any links to the bus services or if it would be better to hire a car?

Here is a good starting point:

For transportation:

The JR buses will not run during winter this year. As for the non-JR buses, they have no English information. You can find the Japanese timetables here:

If you are okay with driving in winter conditions, a car would be of a huge advantage over the infrequent and difficult to understand buses. But, in December there is a big chance that you will encounter snow or ice on the roads, especially in higher elevations, which can be very dangerous if you don't know how to drive under such conditions.

Thanks Uji. I am not very experienced with driving in snow so maybe the best thing is to wait until I get to Aomori and see what the weather conditions are like.

I went to the Towada Art Center in the last year of January 5.
I took a bus of Towada city(十和田市) from Aomori Station(青森駅).
The bus was waiting also stop in the middle in Shichinohe Towada Station(七戸十和田駅).
Per Towada central bus stop is the best center of Towada.
Please translate here in translation software.

Kancho-gai dori(官庁街通り) bus stop seems closest from the Art Center.
If you are not familiar with the operation of the road snow, I recommend that you do not be driving.
I went back took a bus of Misawa(三沢) bound.
I went back took a bus of Misawa bound.
Seems to have been released also bus pack in when I from Hachinohe 2,650 yen.
(The round trip by bus to the Hachinohe+entrance fee )
If you go to Hachinohe, Hatch is also recommended.

towada is less snow compared to Aomori and Hirosaki, but it was convenient if i went wearing the boots.
Maybe, when I went, It had piled up about 5cm.
Arcades and before of the museum, the snow was not, but, please be careful because there is a possibility to fall and frozen.

Thanks. If it is too difficult, I will just go to the arts centre and leave Lake Towada for another time :)
