Car rental from Ueno to Shima Onsen

As stated in the title, I may rent a car from ueno to shima onsen, what I need to know is it difficult to drive on japan's road and especially from ueno to shima onsen destination.

I also hold a UK driving licenses, but i'm getting confused about the information on many site.

it say's I need my licenses, passport and a japanese translation for passport that is based on the 1949 Geneva Convention, does a UK passport also need the japanese translation.

No need translation as short time visa traveler
Just need IDP and passport only if you're English from UK.

But no info HongKong driver's also still valid or not.

I have both a uk and hk licenses, both should be the same, I know a friend of mine who used a hk license to drive in japan without any problem, but I think I have to use my uk one, as my passport is a uk one.

But i'm still trying to decide on a one day trip for a overnight stayover, still collection information, whether it's shima (Sekizenkan Ryokan), or Omaru Onsen Ryokan.

just want a good natural location with a good onsen, been to kusatsu.

all the information stated is a international driving permit, is this the actual driving license, or another item that I need to apply for within uk.

so do I just need a UK license + passport or
