Want to go to a place like in Totoro

I watch My neighbour Tororo many times with my kids. I really love to go to a place in Japan like the background of Tororo like rural rice field deep in the mountain.
Could you guy suggest me some places that look like that?
I can rent a car to go there in the future.

Well there is always Miyama and Shirakawago
M is in Kyoto prefecture, north of kyoto city. Car is recommended as it is rural
S and its surrounding are full of grass huts and farmland. Nearby Takayama. But many mountains and tunnels inbetween.
These are not exactly Totoro movie type of home. They are actual straw/wood/etc type of homes.
