Tokyo station to Shin-Okubo station 2014/11/29 04:13
What kind of train pass will I need for this trip? Also is it hard to find the Yamantoe line? (not sure if I spelt it right)

No pass is needed. Just purchase a regular ticket or use an IC card. YOu could also walk between the two stations in about 10-15 minutes.

Also is it hard to find the Yamantoe line?

No. It is spelled Yamanote.

I wouldn't try walking between Shin-Okubo and Tokyo Stations. Shin-Okubo is one stop north of Shinjuku on the west side of the Yamanote Line Loop, and Tokyo is on the east side, 2 stops south of Akihabara; complete opposite sides of the loop line. Taking the Yamanote around (either direction) wouldn't be the fastest way to get to Shin-Okubo, but it wouldn't require any transfers or use of the subways. If you have a JR Pass, it's good on the Yamanote Line.

Sorry, I managed to misread "Tokyo" as "Shinjuku". Don't walk.

Hello,

The fastest and easy way from Tokyo station to Shin-Okubo:

1. At Tokyo station, go to JR lines and get on the JR Chuo Line Rapid Service to Shinjuku. It leaves from tracks 1 & 2. It takes around 14 minutes. It only stops 3 times before Shinjuku so is much faster than the Yamanote line, which has 15 stops and is a pain if youfve got suitcases. You can also use a JR pass if you have one on this line, because itfs a JR line. Herefs a station map of Tokyo station:

http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/e1039.html

3. You will arrive at Shinjuku station at JR track 12. Change to track 15 for the Yamanote line going towards Ikebukuro, Ueno etc. Do not exit the station or leave by a ticket gate because itfs the same station area for the Yamanote line. You can see a map here of Shunjuku station layout, which you can print from the PDF. All you need to do is change from track 12 to track 15.

4. Go just one stop north on the Yamanote line (track 15), and get off at Shin-Okubo. Itfs just one stop, so only 2 minutes!

The whole journey should take less than 20 minutes, and is much faster than getting the Yamanote line and going through all its 15 station stops.

I hope this helps.
