Real Ivory? How old is ths netsuke? 2014/12/16 14:57
Hello,

I am looking at buying a Netsuke from Japanese auction.

http://zenmarket.jp/en/auction.aspx?itemCode=d159928974

Can anyone please help with identifying the period when this one was made and if it is real ivory?

Also, sellers on auctiones do not ship abroad. Anyone had experience with ZenMarket forwarding service?

Please advise.
Thank you
Andy

It will end in several hours, so here is just my thought.

Reading the original listing in Japanese, the seller says he is a registered antique/second-hand goods dealer, with good auction feedback so far.

But there is no description whatsoever about the make or the age, meaning it's a "buy if you like the looks of it" kind of thing. "No return, no claims" is part of the terms too. So if you really want to know the material or the age, you need to be able to ask, and for this one, you need to be quick about it.

Those handcraft art items find "you" if the encounter is right, so I wouldn't rush to buy one if are not sure, or if you feel you have to be sure :)

Remember that some country do not allow import of ivory product without a license, you need to contact your local government party for more information.

Cool netsuke! I want it.

I have never heard of zenmarket before. In Google the first review is on reddit.
