Climb as in visit the 5th Station, or climb as in summit the peak?

Please don't do it in December. I doubt you'd be able to as it may not be open, but doing it in December not only will put you at risk, but those rescue personnel who may likely will have to rescue you.

Technically the mountain never really closes, and conditions permitting, experienced winter mountain climbers are able to reach the summit in December. Until we know more about the poster, let's not be so presumptuous about their knowledge and understanding of the risks of the sport.

if you have an experience of climbing winter mountain of more than 3000 m height. you may be able to. if not, you should not do that.
the average of maximal temp in Dec. is -12 degrees Celsius and the average of minimal temp is -18 degrees Celsius at the summit. In Jan, the max is -15 degree and the min is -21 degree.

Thank you for all your answers and advises. We are a group of three climbers with a pretty good experience in climbing mountains in winter conditions up to 6300 m for the last 30 years, so experience and equipment would not be a problem.

My doubtsare more about the logistics of the climb:

- Where to sleep the previous night,
- How to reach the fifth station to start the climb,
- Where can I get accurate information of mountain and weather conditions (I normally check Mountain Weather web)
- According to distance and altitude from the fifth station, the climb should be possible done in one single day, but I would like to confirm this point, in case that whe should take our sleeping bags or even tents (I've read that all the huts are closed)

Thank you for any information you could share with me.

Joan

Thank you Ken for your advise and your concerns. In winter conditions, with the appropiate gear we can be more or less comfortable down to -30 ºC, or below if we keep moving. But of course, weather, cold and wind conditions rule always in the mountain, so we will see once there.

Can you recommend me any webpage with weather information in English?

Thank you

Joan

Can you recommend me any webpage with weather information in English?

Hello Joan,

Here’s a good weather site in English and Japanese ― the Japan Meteorological Agency:

http://www.jma.go.jp/jma/indexe.html

The daily tables for Fujisan (mount Fuji) are here for each hour (Altitude 3775m):

http://www.jma.go.jp/en/amedas_h/today-50066.html

Fuji town is here for a comparison (Altitude 66m):

http://www.jma.go.jp/en/amedas_h/today-50196.html

Month and year averages for Fujisan are here from 1932. You can change the desired data viewed in the drop down column at the top:

http://www.data.jma.go.jp/obd/stats/etrn/view/monthly_s3_en.php?block_...

The site also has severe weather warnings/risks, as well as earthquake, typhoon and volcanic eruptions information.

I hope this helps you.
