Hi wondering if using google maps for public transportation planning in Japan is accurate? for the times and which train to take etc. Or should i use the Tambimori app for that?
Thanks

Google maps is accurate. It's good if you need to look up the options right at the moment, but somewhat limited for search options that make it difficult to use for long term planning.
Tabimori offers just a transfer guide (via hyperdia's backbone). Actual train departure times are not given, so it's only useful to get a general sense of travel.
Might be better to go straight to the source and use Hyperdia's app instead. It's by far the best English language train app for Japan. Unfortunately it's paid (subscription based), but they offer something like a two week free trial that may suffice for your travels.

If you have an iPhone, just go on Safari to Hyperdia's page and attach it to your homescreen. It works better than the paid app, since the paid app doesn't allow for misspellings of stations.
