Planning to Oku-Nikko next week (16 Jan 2015). Wonder if the weather condition would allow transportation up and downhill to Lake Chuzenji? Or better to stay only around World Heritage area?
Appreciate advices in advance.

The Okunikko region around Lake Chuzenji can be very nice in winter (with snow landscapes and frozen waterfalls), but it is not usually very enjoyable when the weather is bad. Whether the weather will be nice or not cannot be accurately predicted over more than a couple of days, though. So, you better check the weather forecast before going.

How was the World Heritage area? I just read that there are some renovation works going on. Is it still worth to visit? Thanx!

Rinnoji is being taken apart almost completely for renovation works. People hoping to see a peaceful, traditional temple will be disappointed. People interested in renovation works of historical buildings will be highly excited.
Toshogu's central gate and a a couple other structures are being renovated, but there are so many other buildings and attractions on the shrine grounds that the visit is still worthwhile.
