Rail Pass: 4 travellers, 2 consecutive days 2015/1/13 10:21
What is the best rail pass to buy for 4 travelers on 2 consecutive days. We will be travelling from Narita airport to Tokyo on both days. Is there a pass that would be cheaper than each of us buying a return ticket both days?

When are you going? Also will you just be going between Narita Airport and Tokyo? Off the top of my head consider either the Kanto Pass or possibly the new roundtrip Tokyo Direct Ticket.

WE are travelling from Narita to Tokyo only and will be going on April 11, and 12th. There are 4 adults travelling each day.

You can do the Tokyo-Narita trip very cheaply by regular tickets (from around 1000 yen each way), but if you want a pass for convenience then consider the Kanto Area Pass:

It would cover your airport transfers via the Narita Express and all of your JR transport in Tokyo.

If you're staying and only sightseeing around Tokyo, I suggest the one of the two discount passes:

KEISEI SKYLINER & METRO PASS 2-days:
Tokyo Metro Two-day Open Ticket (Adult) + Keisei Skyliner Round Trip Ticket (Limited Express): Cost: 4,880 yen
Where to buy: Overseas travel agencies (Korea: TOURBAKSA, Taiwan: LION TRAVEL, Hong Kong: JAL Satellite Travel) or onboard Peach Aviation domestic flights bound for Narita Airport
Where to exchange: Ticket counters at Narita Airport Station or Airport Terminal 2 Station, Keisei Skyliner ticket counters at Keisei Ueno Station or Nippori Station (4 counters) (Seat reservations for Keisei Skyliner are only available if there are seats available)
This pass covers:
[Keisei Line] Round trip from Narita Airport Station or Airport Terminal 2 Station to Keisei Ueno Station
[Tokyo Subway Ticket] All Tokyo Metro Subway lines over 2 consecutive days

--OR--
Keisei Skyliner & Tokyo Subway Ticket
Tokyo Subway 2-Day Ticket + Keisei Skyliner Round Trip Ticket (Limited Express):
Cost: 5,100 yen
Where to buy: Ticket counters at Narita Airport Station or Airport Terminal 2 Station
This pass covers:
[Keisei Line] Round trip from Narita Airport Station or Airport Terminal 2 Station to Keisei Ueno Station
[Tokyo Subway Ticket] All Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines over 2 consecutive days

I recommend the Keisei Skyliner & Tokyo 2-Day Subway Ticket between the two passes because the Tokyo Subway Ticket covers both Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines (2 of the 3 train lines in Tokyo) and you can buy it at Narita Airport when you arrive (vs buying it overseas). Remember, that this pass DO NOT COVER any JR trains.

Hope this helps!

If I understand correctly the OP needs to travel two round trips between NRT and Tokyo over the course of two days. In this case, neither of the Keisei Passes really pay off unless you specifically want to take the Skyliner AND will be using the Tokyo Subways extensively.

Really the OP will need to decide between speed and convenience vs cost as you can easily travel between Tokyo and NRT for cheap, but you can go a lot quicker if you are willing to pay more money. The cost comparison also depends on the specific stations involved. Will you be staying around Tokyo Station or somewhere further away such as Shinjuku?
