If You go from Tokyo to Kyoto by Shinkansen (Bullet train), then Mt. Fuji will be easily visible on the right hand side on a clear day.

- Of course then left hand side of direction when you go from Kyoto to Tokyo.

Thank you for your speedy replies. Is February normally a good time to view Mt Fuji and what time of day is best?

Winter usually means clearer air so Feb would be a good time. During the day would be best. Anytime the sun is up it is visible.

From Shin-Fuji station, you would start to see glimpses of Fuji.

If you want good views of Fuji-san you don't need to jump on a bullet train. If you plan on staying in Tokyo, head to Hakone. You can see Mt. Fuji from the ropeway and at the transfer station in between. Winter is a good time as it is more likely to be clear weather, but go as early as possible if seeing Mt. Fuji is your aim. I was lucky enough to go on a clear day in early December and had beautiful clear views of Fuji-san at Owakudani station - much better than those from the shinkansen from Kyoto to Tokyo because there's no powerlines interrupting your sight!

Thanks again for the information. Much appreciated! There are a few options. How much time does one need to do this? Half a day? What is the earliest time the trains operate from Tokyo out to Kyoto or Hakone?

To see it, just sit on the train as it rushes pass.

If you are going to Nagoya or Kyoto or Osaka from Tokyo, you would see it.

If you want to take out your tripod camera, move around, change the angle and exposure settings heading to Hakone or Shin-Fuji is an idea. Shizuoka too, occasionally has views of Fuji.

All depends on weather conditions, but Fujigoko is the best bet for clear views.

Depending on whether you mean "see mt Fuji" or "see plus photo adventure Fuji", the time can take up to a few hours.

Use Japan Guide to check out timings from Tokyo to the above stated locations.

Hakone needs at least a day as it's about two hours outside of Tokyo. Look at this website's description, including the Round Course (the best views are from the ropeway transfer station). If you are heading to Kyoto don't be worried about a 'rushed' view from the train - it stays in view for about 15 minutes, but is always far away and difficult to get a good picture due to the speed of the train and sightline interruptions. My friend had to take about ten photos just to get a good one, but that was before we went to Hakone and discovered the mountain 'showing off' in Hakone!

Thanks for all your valued advice. I think we will take the train to Hakone!
