In the warmer months the monkeys tend not to enter the baths on their own, however the park staff often tempt them to enter by throwing food into the water.

I went to Jigikudani in August. It was almost 30 degrees C. There was a family of monkeys and a few individuals who were swimming without anyone feeding them into the water. You can see here: http: //www.soleilrouge.org/jigokudani-monkey-park-la-vie-est-un-enfer
