hi all
I know this should really be avoided. However, what happens if you had made an earlier train reservation but missed it? Are you able to take the next train? Is the kanto pass for an unlimited number of trains in a day?
thanks for your reply..

Unless you inform a ticket counter, your seat will remain vacant, which, in case the train is busy, will cause inconvenience and loss to fellow travelers and the railway company.
Are you able to take the next train?
You yourself can ride any train in the unreserved section at any time. Or you could make another seat reservation for a later train.
Is the kanto pass for an unlimited number of trains in a day?
Yes.

If you're able to, you can drop into any JR station to cancel the seat reservation once you know you won't be able to use it, You won't be charged for that, and it's a courtesy to other travellers to free up the seat.
It doesn't have to be the station you're travelling from, as long as there's a JR ticket counter there.
If you know which train you want to take instead, you can get a replacement seat reservation, or simply travel on the unreserved car instead.

Yes. You can even spend the entire day in trains if that's your thing. ;)
