Hiking Tateyama and Mount Tsurugi in 1 day 2015/1/27 00:16
Konnichiwa everybody

We are currently planning our trip to Japan including the Alpine Route.

We will start near Shinano Omachi and then spend the night at the Tateyama Hotel (Murodo) before moving to Kanazawa the next day (late afternoon / evening).

First we planned to "climb" Tateyama only, but last week we read that the trip to Mount Tsurugi is very special too.
But it's hard to gather further information about the route, distance, elevation, duration...

Until today I only got the result that it can be done only in 2-day hike.
But as we will stay in a hotel near the route, I wonder if it is possible to do in a 1-day trip only (with an early start?)?
We are both experienced hikers and have a quiet good condition.

Is there any website (besites Alpine Route original Website) where we could some more information?

Many thanks for your help!

Kind regards

Try to get your hands on a copy of the excellent mapple trail maps. They are Japanese only, but have very good estimates of the time it takes to walk the trails.

Anyway, looking at our copy for Tateyama it looks like the trip from the Tateyama Hotel to Mount Tsurugi via Tateyama takes about 14 hours round trip. It sounds like it may be doable if you don't mind hiking in the dark on both ends, but probably not if you also plan to depart for Kanazawa that same day since the last departure leaves Murodo at 18:20.
