As mfedley suggested, you might want to look into the Toyoko Inn chain. Their hotels are usually close to train stations.

Just click on the "Osaka" part of the map and it will bring up a list of branches in that area.

I stayed in Super Hotels in Osaka; comparable prices to Toyoko Inn, and usually in spots near train stations (the one near Tennoji station is very nice), but come with free breakfast - a selection of breads, and Western and Japanese dishes, as well as free all-you-can-drink coffee, tea and hot chocolate!

Must it be Osaka station?

First cabin @ Namba station (Slightly larger capusle hotel) 50$ per person
Boarding house @ Tennoji station (Individual rooms but shared shower) 25$ per room

If you want really budget choices, then check out business hotels near Shin-Imamiya/Dobutsuen-mae stations.
Dare to say cheapest rooms in Osaka?
Have stayed there and no complaints, good connections to more bustling areas.

Have you done a simple Booking.com search? There should be a lot of options under $70.

Try agoda.com

You'll want Tennoji station if you are flying in and using the Haruka Express.

Almost any metro station should be convenient enough.

I stayed at the APA Hotel Tennoji (ekimae??). Was near the station and quite cheap. They gave me a tiny bottle of rum as welcome gift so yay

In 2012 we stayed at Hotel Kinki Osaka (http://hotelkinki.com/en/). It was very inexpensive at that time. Location is very useful in Umeda and not too far away from Osaka main station.
Our japanese-style twin room for two was tiny but clean and staff was friendly. We bought breakfast at the convenience store next to it. Although located in a shopping street the room was quiet.

You might try the Hotel Kitahachi, listed from \ 5,300 on:

Or try Toyoko Inn, Super Hotel, or Comfort Inn.

And if you really want cheap, try:

I still find Osaka Boarding house to be the cheapest!

Less than 50 USD for a family room. About 25 USD for a single

Well, given that in the Chuo Group a single at the Hotel Mikado is 2100 yen, and Hotel Chuo as well as Raizan South are 2200 yen per night, that does not compute.
