Visiting Mount Koya With Luggage 2015/2/7 01:07
Hello,
in a part of our Japan trip, we are planning to visit Mount Koya and stay there overnight at one of the temples.
We are a grown couple, traveling with two big luggages.
We are planning to leave Kyoto early morning and travel to Mount Koya.
The problem is with our Luggage, what should we do with it?
A good thing to mention is that after Mount Koya we are planning to go and visit Osaka.
Should we go through Osaka on the way from Kyoto to Mount Koya and leave the luggage there?
Is there a better option?

Thanks in advance,
Michael.

Either
1.Use the luggage forwarding service from your hotel in Kyoto to your hotel in Osaka, and take an overnight bag to Mt Koya
OR as you suggest
2. go to Osaka and leave it there before Koyasan
It is easier to go to My Koya from Osaka anyway, on the direct Nankai line.
Either option is fine, but #1 is probably most efficient.
Good luck!

What I am going to do is precisely that: present to my hotel at Osaka one day earlier and leave my luggage to their care. I'm sure they will not mind. If that won't do, I'll take my chances with the Osaka station lockers.

One thing, though: I don't know your travel dates, but mind that Mount Koya is probably fully booked for April since they're celebrating their 1200th anniversary.

I have been visiting Mt.Koya as a Tour Escort with groups for the past 8 years. My recommendation is to transfer your luggage from your Hotel in Kyoto thru to your Osaka Hotel. This is done by Takkyubin - safe/secure. The cable car from Gokurakubashi to Koyasan has virtually no room for suitcases.

Although, it is true that there is not an allocated space for the luggage you could still place it on the floor. I travelled with friends and some had those huge 4 wheeler bags.

No problems. There is also a lift service from the cable car level to the ticketing/gantry level.

Absolutely: my recommended first option. Agree completely

Thank you very much!
You have helped me a lot.
I'll eventually decide the option once Ill get there, but I think i'll pick option number 1 - using the transfer luggage service.
