Choice of Rail Passes in Osaka/Kyoto region?

3 of us are traveling to Osaka/Kyoto in April. Our plans are as follows:
Monday 9pm arrive KIX (Kansai airport) Monday night - hotel in Osaka (Tennoji) Tues/Wed/Thu sightseeing in Kyoto (hotel near Keage). Thu 5pm depart from ITM (Osaka Itami airport)
Should I get the Haruka/ICOCA pass? One way or return? I believe the Haruka is not much use to go to ITM. Also, if I take the Haruka to Tennoji, then I cannot use it the next day to go to Kyoto, correct?
Another idea is to buy a one way fare to Tennoji (how much is that?) and get the 3 day (Tue-Wed-Thurs) Kansai through pass "Surutto" for traveling to Kyoto and back to Itami as well as local travel in Kyoto.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The "Haruka" part of the Icoca & Haruka is valid only for travel to/from KIX. The one-way version will provide some savings on the trip from KIX to Tennoji since your Haruka trip will cost 1,030 yen, versus 1,710 for a regular ticket (Hyperdia is your friend).
