Bento on Romancecar to Hakone 2015/2/16 13:06
HI all

I have reserved Romancecar tickets from Tokyo to Hakone at 10am which means we will reach 1130am.

Are the Romancecar bentos worth the price? Or is it better to just get bento from Shinjuku station?

Thanks

It's really about convenience. The Bento's tend to be around 800-1500 yen and you'll either enjoy it or hate it.

My biggest suggestion is to just go into a local convenience store and buy some sandwiches before you get on the train. It will be cheaper and you'll know you'll eat something that you'll enjoy.

There is little price difference between the bentos on the train and the train station.

Is close to the first floor of the entrance gate with Romancecar of home there is a café.
Take-away of bread is also possible.
In addition, they sell bento, bread and snacks, a drink in the kiosk per the middle of the home.
In the vicinity of the underground first floor of wicket (not in the station) is also such as onigiri shop that odamusubi and bakery shop that hokuo.

The pre-order romance car bento is only available in VSE cabin which is a new cabin operated by Odakyu rail. The pre-order bento is also limited. Some train fans love to get on board VSE cabin but Odakyu mostly operates EXE cabin which is slightly old cabin.
Is it worth to buy a romance car bento.....??? I'm not sure about your budget but the bento is limited sale(a pre order is recommended if you will buy it).

Here is the bento menu.
I think you can buy ordinary bento on the romance car except those expensive bentos(1300, 1800 and 2500 yen). The reservation needs three days(until lunch time) in advance.

http://www.odakyu.jp/romancecar/features/food_menu/pdf/menu.pdf

Call "Odakyu Restaurant System"
03-3465-6833(8:00-21:00)
The operator asks you the date you get on board, romance car number, seat number what bento you want to buy, and your contact phone number.
When your bento reservation is completed, the cabin attendant will come to you on the day with your reserved bento, the payment can be done then.
An ordinary bento is also available in the cabin cafe while stock last.
