Hi, just thinking of a day trip Tokyo to Sendai/Matsushima. Is this feasible?

The shinkansen takes 90 minutes from Tokyo to Sendai. A day trip is certainly possible. A JR East Pass costs about the same as a regular shinkansen round trip ticket.

If you go during a week-end and only do a Tokyo/Sendai round trip, this pass should be more andvantageous than a JR East Pass (but the page is in Japanese only)

Yes, it is feasible: we are doing it in April to see family.
Ther isnt a lot in Sendai itself, so I suggest going to Matsushima.
And the route suggested here

going by boat from Hon Shiogama is well worth it.
Dont forget to eat oysters in Matsushima: yummy!
And walking along the caves of this temple is wonderful.

Enjoy!

In case you do not read Japanese rather well, the pass suggested by Firas costs 8,730 yen plus the shinkansen supplements which cost around 10,000 yen for a round trip to Sendai. So, indeed, that pass would be somewhat cheaper than a JR East Pass which costs 22,000 yen.

Thanks to all for the comments. Matsushima is not firmly on the agenda. Thank you

NOT To Matsushima stn of JR Tohoku main line.

There is quite a lot to do in Sendai. Matsushima is one of the more famous items, but Sakunami and Rinno-ji are on my April list of locations.

As for Japanese websites, use Chrome and the auto-translate function - gets you 90% everything you need.
