Buying Prepaid data sim

I have been researching prepaid data sims in Japan and found this page: http://www.nippon.com/en/features/h10011/It's been pretty useful but I am curious about something. My phone is only 3G capable. If I buy an LTE sim (because some of them are saying they can work on 3G networks), will it still work on my 3g-only phone? Will also be traveling to Kyoto and Hokkaido so would like opinions on which is best to use and fastest. Thank you!

If a SIM is 3G/LTE, it will work on a 3G-only phone.
Most (all ?) prepaid data SIMs use the NTT Docomo network, so they should be technically the same. Use the one whose price is most advantageous based on the duration of your stay and your usage profile.
