Driving from Kyoto to Kanazawa

We are renting a car in Kyoto and considering driving to Kanazawa, Matsumoto, and Hakone before retuning to Tokyo. We will be departing Kyoto on April 5th. Any idea on road conditions ie: road closures, snow?

You may encounter some last patches of snow around Shirakawago and Hirayu Onsen (if you take that route), but the other areas are likely free of snow.

The other comment is that it might take longer than you expect. Speed limits are quite low, even on expressways - something to watch out for.
