I love Japanese food! That being said I hate the thought of eating raw fish. The texture alone is enough to make me sick. Is there a way I can refuse to eat it without insulting anyone?

Just make up an excuse, like you're a vegetarian or allergic to raw fish. I came here as a vegetarian and was really worried about offending people but surprisingly they don't mind, in fact they're intrigued! Be prepared to answer a lot of questions about it though as they will be curious.

Haha, yes - just don't order raw fish if you're eating out. Or if you're having it served by someone you know, just say you don't like it before it's bought/served/mentioned.

Most Japanese residents don't expect foreign visitors to want to eat raw fish. Just say you "prefer to eat something else."
