Rail Pass or Kansai Thru Pass ? 2015/3/4 19:53
Dear Everybody, I know there are already a million questions about this subject but I am completely lost.

We are traveling within 2 weeks:
Narita- Tokyo city
Tokyo city (need public transport there)
Tokyo-Haibara (via Kyoto, using Shinkansen)
Haibara- Mount Koya
Mount Koya- Kyoto (need public transport there)
Kyoto-Tokyo (using Shinkansen, date is not within 7 days of Tokyo-Kyoto, so we would have to buy 2 week rail pass)

What rail pass should I use? I would be VERY grateful for some advice!
Thanks a lot!

You have two BIG moves, which is to Kyoto and back, which you might need the JR Pass. Why not go without a pass, and just purchase discount tickets for the two big moves.

http://www.jrtours.co.jp/kodama/en/?scid=jtt_kepEng001

Each leg is about 10,000 yen, and both tickets will cost a lot less than a JR pass.

I hope this helps.

If you post your itinerary with how many days in each city, it will be easier to figure out what pass to get!
