kawaguchiko to kyoto

i want to go to kyoto from kawaguchiko in july by train, and from what i've seen in hyperdia i have to ride jr chuo line from otsuki to hachioji via takao (tokyo). What i want to ask do i have to change the train in takao because in hyperdia writen same train jr chuo line.

Usually yes, but it depends on the time of the day. The much more direct way of travel between Kawaguchiko and Kyoto uses a bus between Kawaguchiko and Gotemba/Mishima, as explained below (but the bus is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass):
