Nikko worth daytrip with Yomeimon gate coverd

The Yomeimon gate at Toshogu Shrine in Nikko is under wraps due to renovation. It seems it is considered one of the more famous sight in Nikko. For a day trip from Tokyo, is there now another place more worth going to than Nikko? I will be in Japan April 11-24.

totally still worth going to Nikko. the Tamozawa Villa is great as well as the yuba food in Nikko
