Japan-Wifi.net pocket wifi reliable? 2015/3/30 19:51
Hi!

Will be visiting Japan next week, and looking to rent a pocket wifi for our trip. Unfortunately, the more popular companies likes Global Comm and Japan Wireless are all out of the pocket wifi models we wanted.

I chanced upon Japan-Wifi.net (http://japan-wifi.net/), and would like to ask if anybody has good experience with it?
How's the customer service and coverage like?
We will be driving to the Izu Peninsula, and perhaps around the Mt Fuji area before returning to Tokyo.

Thank you!

Hello Jo Jo!
I don't know japan-wifi.net but take a look at econnetjapan.com. We currently using their wifi hotspot and it works great - Even in the Mt Fuji area we had LTE network access.
Customer support also responded kindly and quick to our questions.

I want to recommend you NINJAWiFi. If you emphasize on the quality of the signal,
which one uses the channel only for domestic use so you can really get LTE access in your trip. See the detail at ninjawifi.com.

Note that most rental wifi/data sims are running on either the docomo or ymobile networks so similar offerings from different companies will tend to have the same coverage. This makes it easier to compare services mostly by price and data caps.

Does anybody know where the device from Japan-Wifi.net can be picked up at Narita Terminal 1?

If you cant find a pocket wifi you might investigate if you can not use your smartphone (or an older smartphone) as a pocket wifi (tethering, data mode or so). Than you just need to rent a data sim (and there is no need to return something).
Have a nice trip.

As i'm about to take my first flight to Tokyo soon, i compared prices of pocket Wifi between Ninja Wifi and Japan Wifi.
There is huge difference in pricing!
Ninja Wifi has limited 1GB data/day, Japan Wifi has no limit.
12 days less than 8000yens (JWI)compared to 21000yens(Ninja).
Makes me thinking what is the real difference, never used before.

you can easily check the company's trust ability.
Ninja wifi
http://ninjawifi.com/lp/jp/company/
there is a company's name and the president name.

rental-store
http://www.rental-store.jp/html/ordercontract.html
again, a company's name and the manager's name.

Japan wifi net
http://japan-wifi.net/About-Japan-Wifi
there is no person's name.
Japan wifi net hides the person who is responsible for their business.

Okay, Japan-Wifi tested for 13 days.
Ordered online and mentioned delivery to Narita Aiport.
E-mail received after my order has been prosessed and delivered to Narita Post office waiting for my arrival.

Happened just as planned, envelope was waiting there, opened envelope and there was pocket Wifi, SSD-name and password was marked back of device. Power on and pairing for phone and iPad. Immediatelly working 4G, wow...

Train ride to Tokyo, Wifi worked 100% even moving train!
Device power lasted at least 12h use, not bad at all!
During being all over Tokyo and surroundings no failure using device. not once -RELIABLE! (as promissed).
Data upload - SUPER FAST! (as promissed).
Coverage - AWESOME! (as promissed).
Does it work on bullet train?? OFF COURSE, speed of 300km/h worked SUPER!!!

Worth of spend money (a bit over 7000yen) for 13 days? ABSOLUTELY worth!!!!

Would use another time while visit Japan?
ABSOLUTELY! :)

One happy customer from Finland.

Wifi router/SIM card rental is probably the best option to have internet access in Japan all the time.
At least I was totally satisfied with the service I got from Sakura Mobile. I completed my order on the internet before coming to Japan and returned the equipment by post which was very simple.
I was always connected even when going to the countryside. That's my recommendation.

I had used pupuru and it was pretty good! http://www.pupuru.com/en/service/emobile/

I do recommend to get extra battery or if you have mini usb, then you can charged with a power bank when on the go.

Hope this helps!!
Have Fun!!

I used Pururu, and it did not connect to the internet in a lot of remote areas of Japan (admittedly areas that are off-the-beaten-path). I recommend to go with an docomo-network based service if you visit remote areas.

I'd like to recommend you Sakura Mobile. I think they are slightly cheaper than others and service is totally fine! You can take a look at different rental options here https://www.sakuramobile.jp/
