Free Tour Guides in Kyoto? 2015/3/31 06:46
Hello All,

I booked a trip to Japan for late May. I have everything planned except for one thing, tours. I'm on a budget and I'm going solo so I was looking into the option of volunteer guides as I don't really know where I'm going.

Does anyone have recommendations for free tours in Kyoto or Nara?

I found this site online - http://www.geocities.jp/goodsamaritanclub_hp/index.html

Has anyone used them before?

I look forward to your help on this!

Check the JNTO Goodwill Guides & Volunteer Guides page:

http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/arrange/travel/guide/list_volunteerGuides.ph...

Scroll down until you find Kyoto; you'll see a few organisations offering free guiding services.

These groups tend to be retired people or university students who speak reasonable English and enjoy showing visitors to their home towns. Don't expect a high level of English though or detailed local or national and historical knowledge but enough to add some value to your sightseeing.
