Hakuba in late April? 2015/4/1 15:09
Sorry to repeat a bit, but I posted this as part of another thread by mistake.

I'm going on the Tateyama Alpine route in late April and want to spend the night somewhere where I can stargaze. Unfortunately most of the accommodation options along the alpine route are out of my budget so I'm considering Hakuba. But is it a good place to stargaze? (Or is there someplace else close to Shinano-Omachi station where I could spend stargaze and spend the night?)

And what could I do in Hakuba next day? Some sources that it'll be a bit late for skiing, others say it'll be ok. Are there any particular ski resorts in Hakuba which would be better in late April? Or could I hike around the area? Are there are easy hiking trails?

In short, any suggestions for activities would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I went to Hakuba in October, and the skies were clear. Compared to most of Japan, there is very little light pollution at night. There are lots of things to do in Hakuba if you like the outdoors (hike, bike, canoe, onsen, maybe even ski but I'm not sure when the season ends).

P.S. This place was super inexpensive and the owners were incredibly nice. http://traveljapanblog.com/wordpress/2009/11/hakuba-part-5/
