Your favourite day trip out of Tokyo

I'll be staying in Tokyo near Nakano station for a while. In the evening I'll be busy meeting friends, but during the day I will mostly be travelling alone. I've already got plenty of plans for exploring Tokyo, but now I'm looking to also take some short day trips and was wondering about your experiences.
I wanted to ask for tips on what people's favourite day trips out of Tokyo are. Conditions: not too pricey, and possible to get back to Nakano roughly by 7 or 8.

Hm.... A day trip that returns by 6 to 7 is not easy.
As limimted by time constraint, Yokohama or Fuji would be the choices.
If after 6 or 7, Kamakura or Nikko are possible options.
If you want a bit of everything Japan's countryside has to offer then Nagano would be the ideal choice.
