Shakotan capes sightsee via public transport 2015/5/22 19:07
Hi, I am thinking of taking a day trip from Otaru to Shakotan via public transport. We would like to book the seabed sightseeing boat from Bikuni Port. Would anyone be able to advise the prices and schedule?

Many thanks!

Somehow or rather, I find the tour overpriced, especially also that boat fees and uni meals need additional charges. If there are buses that serve from yoichi conveniently and inexpensive, that would be great.

Rental car from Otaru would probably be a better option?

Hello,

I'm riding on this topic...

I've been reading up about Shakotan and get very confused with what to see in each location. Since I'm relying on public transport and with limited time, I believe I can only see Cape Kamui, and take glass bottom cruise in Bikuni.

1) I believe the lighthouse is at Cape Kamui. Then where exactly are the unique rocks? I read of "Cape Shakotan". Is this the place? Is it possible to walk to this area? Is it similar to Cape Kamui?
2) Is Shakotan Town Office in Bikuni?
3) If I take Chuo bus, the bus stop after Cape Kamui is 積丹余別. Is this near Cape Shakotan?
4) Where can I book glass bottom cruise in Bikuni?
5) Where can I get a copy of sightseeing map?

Thank you very much.

Kamui Misaki (location of lighthouse) and Shakotan Misaki are two distinct locations.

The closest stop to Shakoten misaki is Shimamui kaigann iriguchi

information for glass bottom boat is here. advance reservations for groups of 15 or more.

Thank you for the info, kms.

So it means if I were to take bus # 21, it would only bring me from Cape Kamui to 積 丹余 別 (which I have no intention of going) and Bikuni, but not Cape Shakotan. How else can I reach Cape Shakotan other than taxi?

Sorry, I made a mistake.

島武意海岸入口 is the nearest bus stop to Cape Shakotan, coming from Cape Kamui. Am I right?

Some #21 buses terminate at Yobetsu (積 丹余 別) while others continue on and terminate at Kamuimisaki. To visit Shakotanmisaki you need to get off at Shimamui kaigan iriguchi (島武意海岸入口) which is between Bikuni and Yobetsu.

The pdf timetable only displays the major stops, on the chuo bus website you can see additional stops:
