Japan itinerary 2015/5/30 22:11
Our hotel in Tokyo is in the Asakusa area (3 travelers)
We're arriving June 20 and leaving june 27th from Narita.
Could you give me feedback with this itinerary?

June 21 - Asakusa area/ Odaiba?
Odaiba? or Edo -Tokyo Open air museum?
June 22 Meiji Shrine/ Shinjuku, Shibuya areas
June 23 Nara ? or Nikko? day trip

June 24 - Kyoto via JR pass (Hotel in Gion area) arrive lunch time. Explore Gion
June 25 - Higashiyama area (Kiyomizudera temple)
June 26 - Nijo Castle / Arashiyama area Bamboo groves ? JR train back to Tokyo late afternoon

Are there lockers in the main Kyoto train station?

I don't know where to include Fushimi-Inari in the Kyoto itinerary ...

I don't know where to include Edo Tokyo Open Air Museum in the Tokyo itinerary....is it worth including?

Is it OK to stay in Gion area for a base or should I change our accommodation in the Kyoto main train station area?

Suggestions please. If we can include a boat ride somewhere, that would be good too. Any boat ride somewhere.
I also like a combination of famous temples, architecture museum, modern Japan, park....
There's so little time : ( I need 1 year at least!!)

THANK YOU!!

Jun 23
Recommended based Kyoto Station

Morning Shinkansen train to Kyoto
Fushimi-Inari afternoon
Go to Osaka Namba area evening for yummy food!

Jun 24
Higashiyama area (Kiyomizudera temple) Morning
Explore Gion afternoon
You can walk from Higashiyama to Gion, it is a nice walk!

Jun 25
Nijo Castle morning
Arashiyama Bamboo groves

Jun 26
Nara morning
Late Shinkansen train to Tokyo

Jun 27
Depart Tokyo, Japan

Are there lockers in the main Kyoto train station? Yes but it better to arrive before 10am to gtryh to get a locker, otherwise you could always check the luggage storage at the basement or try to drop of your luggage at the hotel would be better.

Other notes: Japan Rail Pass will only be valid on JR trains. Will not work with private lines like Tokyo Metro.

For that you should get a Pasmo IC card and load up as you need. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_003.html

Hope this helps!!!!
Have Fun!!!

For a boat ride, this looks great! I haven't done it myself but I plan on it this autumn. I've been to Arashiyama and can't wait to do it:

As far as staying in Gion, it's my favorite area to stay in. It's close enough to transport hubs. It's a nice place to stroll around in at night as well.

My nighttime stroll memories in the rain at night at Fushimi Inari are some of my most vivid. I would include it if you have time; if not there's a million things to do in Kyoto that you won't regret.
