Yamanote and Seibu Ikebukuro Commuter's pass 2015/6/23 00:47
Hello! I've never posted here before, so sorry if I make a mistake!

From September I'll be living in Nerima near Fujimidai station, and I'll be studying at Aoyama Gakuin University in Shibuya until Summer. I think I've worked out what trains to get (Seibu Ikebukuro line to Ikebukuro, then Yamanote line to Shibuya? Probably?) I've been trying to look into commuter's passes to see if they exist for my route/would work out any cheaper than just getting a suica or pasmo, but I haven't managed to discover anything yet. (Speaking of, do I get both? Just one? Which? Ahhhh I don't know!)

If anybody could help me out I'd be grateful! I've never been to Japan before and basically have no idea what I'm doing, so having my route to school planned would be nice~

Oh this is Living Q but not so difficult.

Trains commuter pass will be one pass(one IC card) possible
as JR(Yamanote line) and Seibu(Ikebukuro line).
This type pass are calling "Conection commuter pass 連絡定期券(renraku-teiki-ken)".
For Student type are "通学定期券(Tsuugaku-teiki-ken)"
regular commuter pass are calling just "定期券(teiki-ken)".
Most Japanese saying more shorty only "teiki" (delete "-ken" =ticket).
So saying "renraku-teiki" enough.

In Japan most trains and bus campanies provide
3 types commuter pass exist 1ヶ月(1month),3ヶ月(3month) and 6ヶ月(6month).
But above fares are NOT for Univ Student (for regular adult worker)
So maybe will be around 70%(30% off) 6month type is the cheapest as highest discount rate.

"Suica" commuter pass sales at "JR" stns. (at Shibuya or Ikebukuro also other major stn in Tokyo possible)
"PASMO" commuter pass sales at "Seibu" stns (at Ikebukuro better than Fujinomiya)
Suica and PASMO[IC card] are no big different no worry
using for not commuter pass route and for shoppings and eating(as e-money).

For purchasing student pass need some paper work
at Univ office(at No.17 buiding 2F/student center 学生生活課) before going train stn.

Aoyama Univ(Aogaku/nick of Univ) web not good Eng guide page but other Univ same sytem read all.

(extra)
If changing possible for moving not so future
get off Omote-sando[表参道] stn(subway/not JR) closer than JR Shibuya[渋谷].
To Omote-sando stn by Odakyu line[小田急線] convenient
via Yoyogi-uehara[代々木上原] no need transfering
also Tokyu Denen-toshi/TouYoko line[東急 田園都市線/東横線]
or Keio Inogashira line[京王 井の頭線] via Shibuya(not JR stn) maybe cheaper as not so far stn.

Yes. I had a commuter pass from HOYA on the Seibu Ikebukuro sen to GOTANDA on the Yamanote sen for many years. It will be much cheaper than a SUICA. Just go to the Seibu noffice in Ikebukuro and tell them the starting and ending station.
Also the pass allows you to get on and off at any station in between the two on any day.

and Fukutoshin line's Shibuya platform placed deeper underground u know
not so convenient for stn out to Aogaku(Univ).
