Climbing Mt Fuji in September 2015/6/30 08:12
My wife an I are coming to Tokyo in September for our honeymoon and I want to spend some time to climb Mt Fuji. We won't arrive until Sept 17 which is just outside the official climbing season. I just wanted to make sure that this wouldn't be an issue for transportation, accommodations and the actual paths available to the summit. Can someone comment on this and potentially provide some recommendations on where to stay and what paths are best? Thanks so much!

Many services are available on the mountain a little bit outside the official season so you should be ok if you start booking now. Alternatively you could climb without staying at a hut which means you wouldn't need to make advance reservations. I would recommend climbing via the Fuji Subaru 5th Station which is the easiest to access and will have the most services available. More info here:

I don't recommend to climb Mt Fuji off season. There are some huts still open until late-Sep or beginning of Oct but public services such as rescue and first aid facilities are suspended by the time you will climb. The most climbing accidents include death occur during off season. Both Yamanashi and Shizuoka police departments don't recommend to do off season climbing.

Tokyofriend's point is valid, but note that Japanese tend to be overly cautious about off season climbing.

Note that it is pretty usual (sometimes recommended even) to climb a week or two out of the official season, weather dependent, as many of the facilities will be still be operating as normal and you'll avoid the heaviest crowds (it may still be crowded however). Frankly you probably won't notice any difference except the slightly changed bus schedules. Beyond that however becomes highly weather dependent.

I did it once in Late September, it was wonderful, no people but beautiful.
You should check the weather on the day you visit but i think it is possible.
