I have read there are several shopping streets in the Abeno area in Osaka including Abenobashisuji. However I haven't been able to locate exactly on google map where this is. Is Abenobashisuji one of those old style shopping streets with overhead cover?

It is located near oosakaabenobashi station(kintetsu line) exit no.8. Abenobashisuji is the old style shopping area.but these days this area was redeveloped. You can see new and old scene.

https://goo.gl/iViQbSOn the right you can see Q's Mall which is a newly constructed shopping mall replacing the west side of Abenobashisuji shopping street. On the left you can see a tram running. The left (east) side is still a shopping street with overhead cover. Abenobashi-suji had two shopping street with overhead covers, along the tram (Hankai Uemachi line). Even in the past, this was not a typical "market" type shopping street. As I remember, there were restaurants, book stores, cafes, clothing stores, but no meat shops, grocery stores etc. There were so many old style shopping streets in Osaka where peaple come and obtain daily foods. They must compete with modern supermarkets so that they are not so lively in general, but there are still many shopping streets in Osaka. You can see a map showing their distribution in Osaka area. http://syoutengai-net.jp/osakacity_map.html

Oh, so this covered shopping street is on Abeno-suji? I thought it's in a laneway like Tenjinbashi-suji.

I thought it's in a laneway like Tenjinbashi-suji.No. Abenobashi-suji is along the tram and the roadway. There is also sidewalks both sides above which is the overhead cover. I remember there was also some alleys, especially to the west side where one of my favorite restaurant Grill Maruyoshi located. Now Maruyoshi is in Q's Mall. On the east side there was Hugo book store (after the name of a French novelist Victor Hugo) which was one of the biggest book store in Osaka 40-50 years ago. Sadly this store was closed in 2011. https://twitter.com/books_hugoAs you can see on Google street map, Abenobashi-suji looks declining now.
