Gion Matsuri, July 24 too crowded? 2015/7/16 05:31
I will be going to Kyoto July 24-26, just when the Gion Matsuri 2nd biggest festival happens.

Would it be too crowded/impossible to go to these popular tourist attractions these few days, especially July 24? Popular attractions include Path of Philosophy, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Gion, Ninen-Zaka /Sanen-zaka? Floats are at 10am so perhaps going there in the afternoon of 7/24?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

You can just visit the areas not used for the festival. People will be at the festival, so other attractions aren't crowded.

The floats are being prepared today for the festival parade tomorrow (the 17th) and already some roads are closed. The 24th appears to be a "sceond" smaller parade, and the festival runs different events all month.

Todays excursion to Ginkakuji, Philosophers path and Heian Shrine did not have many tourists and was pleasantly less crowded than Kinkakuji.

Also, there are so many attractions, they will not all be occupied. The approaching typhoon wasn't putting anyone off, nor the 30C+ temperatures.
